FAQ’s

  •  Do I have to attend all four days of the geocaching event?

You can attend 1,2, 3 or all 4.  It is entirely up to you!

  • Will there be new geocaches released, and when?

Yes!  There will be a minimum of 100 new geocaches released all over the Gold Country region thanks to our volunteers!  These will be released Saturday morning in Lillooet BC.

The caches will go live after September 3rd, 2016.

  • Can you down load the new caches to my gps?

Yes!  This will be done on Saturday morning.  We will bring our laptops with us to the other events as well in case you cannot be at the Lillooet event.

  • Can you down load the new caches to my Ipad or Cell phone?

We will do our best!  Sometimes this can be a tricky process.  We will have a few printed copies of coordinates for people to type in manually.  Please be patient and wait in line J Our volunteers are amazing and do their best to accommodate all of the different technology out there.  *Please note with some tech you may only be able to see coordinates and not the site pages and descriptions!

  •  Why are the geocaches not released before?

This is a way of thanking the people that attend the events.  Half the fun is finding a cache before anyone else!  We took a survey after our last event and the overwhelming response to release the caches after.

  •  Why should I attend an event?

Because it is FUN!  You get to meet some very friendly folks of all ages who have the same hobby!  We take part in some fun games, enjoy beautiful scenery and meet wonderful people!  There are prizes, entertainment, and vendors!

  • Why are the events not held in the same communities every year?

Gold Country is a very large region and covers many communities and Thompson Nicola Regions.  The first year we were in 9 locations!  The second year we choose four locations to set up our events in. This year we choose four different locations. This allows for more time to enjoy the events and meet all you amazing folks!  Having different locations every year gives participants the opportunity to enjoy the different communities that make up our area.  It gives more time to explore and have fun in each community.  We enjoy spreading the love and fun to all our Gold Country Region!

  • Will there be FTF coins this year?

We have been one of the few geocaching events to do this!  We have decided not to have FTF coins this year in order to keep the registration costs down.  You will find some FTF pins in some of the caches and you will find swag in any that are large enough to hold it.

  • Will there be any coins this year?

Yes, if you are an adult paid registrant you will receive a geocoin during the registration check in.

  • What is available for accommodations?

If you go to www.exploregoldcountry.com you will find our Visitor Guide with a list of accommodations ranging from campgrounds, BC Parks, B&B’s, Guest Ranches, Hotels, and motels.

  • Do I need any special equipment to go geocaching in Gold Country?

Some of the geocaches are located on back roads, but most are accessible by all types of vehicles.  There are plenty of geocaches within the communities, on walking trails, on Crown land or in parks.  There will be something for everyone !  Wear shoes with a good tread, beware of cactus (you may not want to cache in flip flops!) J.  Please use common sense, if the trail doesn’t look suitable for the equipment you have, rethink if the smiley is worth it.

  • Do I need to be a paid registrant?

Nope.  We organize this event so that EVERYONE can participate, but keep in mind that these events do cost $ to organize and to bring to  life and the purchase of your registration bags goes a long way towards making sure this event continues every year.  Plus!  The stuff in your registration bag is amazing!
